Mom often quoted Psalm 122:1, "I was glad when the said unto me: let us go to the house of the LORD."
Sunday has always been a day set apart. For church, for quiet, for rest. When the kids were little I would start on Saturday night making sure that all the clothes were clean and laid out, Sunday school lessons ready, Bibles accessible. This minimized Sunday morning craziness (note: I did not say it eliminated it).
With an empty nest, the pace is very different, but we still need to set this day aside for worship and fellowship.
We are not legalistic about this, although we generally avoid shopping or eating out on Sundays we will do either if circumstances dictate.
And setting the Sabbath apart doesn't mean it is not busy. Today I am teaching children's church and bringing food for the potluck after church. It is Pastor appreciation today and we certainly do appreciate them! (Especially, but not exclusively the ones we raised.)
So. Take time today. Stop the regular frantic pace of life. Go to church. Worship, fellowship. Relax and enjoy this special day GOD has given you.
You'll be glad you did.
